Our Thank You and General Meeting_10-11-12

Hello,

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our Ziti Dinner at the Jean Birch M.O.T. Senior Center on October 6th.  We are very thankful to have many great supporters and contributors helping us.  This effort to startup a soup kitchen has not been easy, but with the great support and love from our friends and supporters in the M.O.T. Community, we are confident that we will make it happen.

In the meantime, we are looking forward to some upcoming events still to come during the month of October.  This Thursday, we have our General Meeting with our volunteers and friends at 5pm at the Middletown Academy Building (Old Town Hall).  Please join us as we will be discussing our free meal service for the needy, scheduled for October 26th.  We need volunteers to help with the meal service and most critically at this time, we need help with the outreach process.

Also, don't forget about the Frog Hollow~een Golf Outing on October 31st.  Play and participation is critical and we need your support to make this event a success.  For more information, please contact Carmel Stephano at (302)378-4653.

Kindly yours,

Tim DeSchepper

Our Progress and October Events

Hey everyone!  Sorry that I've been out of touch lately, however we are still making great strides to getting the soup kitchen open.  Our meetings are now more productive than ever and we are hoping and praying to have a kitchen available very soon for those in need :)

In the meantime, we have a couple very exciting events coming up in October.  First, is a Baked Ziti Dinner at the Jean Birch M.O.T. Senior Center on October 6th from 4:30-7pm.  Cost for adults is $10, kids ages 6-12 is $6, and kids 5 and under eat for free.  Tickets will be sold at the door.  For advance tickets, please call Ann at (302)388-1021.  Raffle and 50/50 tickets will also be available.

We also received great news, that Frog Hollow Golf Club will be hosting a charity golf outing to help raise awareness for the soup kitchen.  The event is on Wednesday, October 31st, or the spooky day we call Frog Hollow~een :)  I know I'm scared!!  It includes an 18-hole round of golf with a cart, driving range balls, lunch, dinner, On-course beverages and prizes.  Entry fee is $125 per golfer and $500 per foursome.  Sponsorships opportunities are also welcome.  If you would like to register or need more information, please contact Carmel Stephano at (302)378-4653.  Thank you.

Happy Labor Day!

Our Fish Fry & FREE Continental Breakfast Part II

Okay, so the fish is bought and we are all very excited for Saturday's Continental Breakfast and Fish Fry.  I hope you're ready!  As mentioned, we will be out at the old town hall (Academy Building) in Middletown serving free breakfast from 9am-11am.  And then...we will be kicking it with our Fish Fry Fundraiser in the afternoon from 11am until the fish is gone.

Unfortunately, I did receive some bad news yesterday with Pepsi Cola not being able to help with our beverages.  So, if anyone can possibly donate some cool refreshing beverages to help prevent dehydration (hunger's evil counterpart), we would greatly appreciate your efforts!!

Very truly yours,

Tim
Volunteer/President

July 4th and Fireworks Fundraiser

Hello,
We are looking to do a bake sale fundraiser during the July 4th Parade and Fireworks event.  To pull this off, we're going to need some help from our totally awesome group of volunteers.  Just some items we're going to need include:
- a table and chairs
- cooking of baked goods
- set up and disassemble of station for both events
- pick up and transport of items
- sit and help with sales of items and the distribution of ODB MOT, Inc flyers
If you or somebody you know would like to help, please contact Candace Calloway at (302)388-0179 or Alan Parcells at (302)230-6633.

Our Best Meeting Yet

For those who missed our meeting last night, it was the best one yet!  We had a really good turnout and everything seemed to click.  To this point in time, it has been a difficult journey trying to get to where we are and where we want to be.  We are making a lot of great progress and becoming stronger as we move along in the process.  In the beginning, I just asked for one thing, your patience.  Everyone has been great and we would not be anywhere if we didn't have your support.  I foresee great things to come this summer and fall, so please stay posted and be on the lookout for our next events.  Have a great summer!

Our Cookout Yesterday

Happy Father's Day!  What a great day we had yesterday for our summer celebration!  We served approximately 50 meals and received about $80 in donations.  Thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who helped with the preparation work and the clean up.  Thanks to Walmart, Willey Farms, the Dutch Country Farmer's Market and all of our volunteers for making this meal possible.

We are truly making our mission happen by serving one meal at a time as we continue to look for a home.

Our Preparation Work for Saturday

Okay, new sidewalk "sandwich" signs were ordered yesterday and will hopefully be here before Saturday.  Otherwise, back to the old style yard signs.  Donation letter request for hotdogs and hamburgers was submitted to Walmart.  Advertising bill was released and paid for to the Middletown Transcript, ahead of schedule.  New treasurers report for the meal program was updated showing that we have $30 more this month than last.  Thank you to St. Joseph's Parish and Cathy Escherich for their continued support.  Have a great week everyone!

Our Summer Celebration

Please join us next Saturday, as we celebrate to bring in the summer.  We will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers in the Forest Presbyterian Church parking lot, located right across the street from the Everett Theatre, from 11am until 3pm.  The event is free and everyone is welcome!

Our First Blog

Hello everyone!  Thank you for visiting our blog.  Since I am new to the blogging world and Our Daily Bread Dining Room of M.O.T, Inc is a fairly new organization, I would like to give you a quick description of who we are and what we are about.  My name is Tim DeSchepper and I am the president of the organization that is working to find a home for Middletown-Odessa-Townsend (MOT) Soup Kitchen.  Our organization is made up of four officers, four board of directors and about 90 members and volunteers.  Our sole mission is to provide nutritious meals to low-income families, children, the elderly, individuals and the impoverished who are living in the MOT area.

I'm not sure how long these postings are suppose to be, but I will keep this one short and simple.  Our current goals are to find a home for the soup kitchen and to host special meal sessions and events for people until we find a home.  Our objectives will be to obtain enough funds to operate and maintain a soup kitchen through grant writing, fundraising and recurring sources of revenue.  We do believe that god is on our side, so all this will happen with a little time, hard work and prayer.  Thank you.  Hope you enjoy our first blog :)
